According to the Centers for Disease Control, across the United States, chronic disease accounts for seven to ten deaths each year. Preventable chronic disease includes diabetes, heart disease, stroke, smoking related cancers, emphysema, and asthma, as well as many other related issues. DASH-NY supports population level approaches to prevent chronic disease by supporting policies and programs that work to increase exercise, improve access to healthy food, reduce smoking, and reduce risk behaviors.
